Anniversary of the favorite city: festive projects and exhibitions in the regional library

During the celebration of the 1050th anniversary of the founding of Vitebsk, the V. Lenin Regional Library invites you to learn more about our city and its inhabitants.
Ancient and beautiful Vitebsk is transformed every year. At the presentation of the photo exhibition «Dedicated to the city...» by Dmitry Osipov on June 25 at 16:00, habitual places will present to Vitebsk citizens in a different way. In the exposition of the works of the photo correspondent of the regional newspaper «Vitebsk vesti» the audience will see what has already become history, will be surprised by the intricacy of streets and squares, will discover habitual places as they are observed by birds from the height of their flight.
The new production «The Saint Olga» of the Theater will tell on June 25-26 about the amazing fate of Princess Olga, the first ruler of Rus', who adopted Christianity. Against the backdrop of colorful scenery, the story of a woman will come to life, in whose integral personality an extraordinary mind and strong will, genuine strength of spirit and greatness of soul, wisdom and true piety are combined. An amazing journey through the centuries to the origins of Vitebsk will be interesting for both adults and children!
Thematic evening «Three bayonets guard the quiet... » with the participation of representatives of the Publishing House "Zvyazda" will present on June 26 at 15:30 the third edition of the book by Nina and Nikolai Dorofeenko, Nikolai Pakhomov «Vitebsk underground».
For the first time the book about the heroes of the patriotic underground of the city above the Dvina was published 55 years ago, in 1969. In the 1974 re-edition, the authors made additions and some changes. The initiator of the new third edition of the book is the Vitebsk Regional Library named after V. Lenin, which carries out heroic-patriotic and historical-regional studies work on an ongoing basis. The documentary story is supplemented by the latest article by Nina Dorofeenko about the feat of Vera Khoruzhaya in Vitebsk.
The history of the Vitebsk book will be revealed through the prism of local history editions of the second half of the XIX - early XX century, including those of the famous historian and local historian Alexei Sapunov, which are still of interest to researchers and readers, presented in the exhibition hall «ExLibris». All exhibits are distinguished not only by their scientific value, but also by a very high level of printing execution.
