Hurray! Summer adventures in the regional library continue! In August, the book cat Foliant introduces children from summer school camps to the mysterious Bukvitsa.
What is Bukvitsa? It is not just a large capital letter, but a real star of book design for almost one and a half thousand years. Schoolchildren get acquainted with ancient capital letters that bloom, sing, chirp, make an animal roar, fly, jump and even speak with a human voice.
This week, young researchers from Secondary School No. 38 visited the workshop of an ancient Russian book copyist and looked into the printing house of Francis Skaryna. They met modern artists who create incredible illustrations and decorate texts.
Amazing ornaments and engravings inspired children to try their hand at writing capital letters. At the master class, everyone not only drew their own unique initial letter, but also decorated one of the pages of an old book. And the bravest tried drawing with real goose feathers! The creative process turned out to be so exciting that many drew a second and even third version of their capital letters!
Join us in the next adventures - there is still much interesting in the rare book section!
