Presentation of publications about Vitebsk in the magazine «Krai Smolensky»

On March 17, in the library, as part of the series «Local History Meetings», a presentation of publications about Vitebsk in the magazine «Krai Smolensky» took place.

The editor-in-chief of the popular science magazine «Krai Smolensky» Yuri Shorin took part in the presentation of the publication. He told about the history of one of the main local history periodicals of the Smolensk region, which for thirty-five years has been monthly presenting interesting, informative materials on the history, archeology, ethnography, art, and local history of the region.

Among these publications are also dedicated to our common history, to the people who unite the Vitebsk and Smolensk regions.

One of such publications is the article by Maxim Makarov and Lyudmila Khmelnitskaya «Vitebsk Town Hall – 250». The magazine published new documents on the history of the construction of the town hall building. Lyudmila Khmelnitskaya emphasized in her speech that on March 16 Vitebsk celebrates the anniversary of the town hall, and on March 17, 1597, the city was granted Magdeburg rights.

The material by Tatyana Kotovich and Daria Ivanova is dedicated to one of the famous creators of avant-garde art, El Lissitzky, whose life and work also unite Vitebsk and Smolensk. Doctor of Art History, Professor Tatyana Kotovich spoke about what preceded the appearance of this material in the publication.

As a gift to the library, Yuri Shorin presented books published in the series «Library of the magazine «Smolensky Region»» and copies of the magazine.
