On October 31, as a part of the library project «Music for Everybody» a lecture by composer Alexander Ivanov «Gustav Mahler. Symphony No.1» was held in the library.
The symphonies brought the Austrian composer world fame and made him one of the greatest masters of modern music. Gustav Mahler said that one can compare composing a symphony with a world creation with its own laws, but it must be performed in such a way that the person listening to it becomes a different person.
In his First Symphony, the young composer wonders about the essence of existence and the sense of life. He called the symphony «Titan», after the novel by his favourite novelist Jean Paul, thereby trying to underline the spiritual link between his hero and the writer's hero. The world premiere of the work took place on November 20, 1889 in Budapest.
