The round table «Literary Bridges» with the participation of Belarusian and Russian writers and poets took place on November 26 in the regional library.
The meeting began with a welcoming speech by the chief specialist of the department of work of organizations in the sphere of culture of the Department of Culture of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Zoya Gukova.
The basis for new Belarusian-Russian projects will be the Agreement on cooperation and joint activities between the Vitebsk Regional Library named after V. Lenin and the Representative Office of Rossotrudnichestvo in the Republic of Belarus, which was signed by the director of the regional library Tatyana Adamyan and the head of the Representative Office Yuri Makushin.
An important support for interest in modern Russian literature and creative dialogue between readers and writers will be the replenishment of the regional library fund thanks to the Association of Unions of Writers and Publishers of Russia. Leading specialist of the project office for organizing creative business trips ASPIR Khristina Karlova read a greeting from the Chairman of the Association Sergei Shargunov and presented a book donation of 300 publications as part of the international activities of the organization.
Participants of the round table – representatives of the Vitebsk regional branch of the Union of Writers of Belarus and the Union of Writers of Russia – shared their opinions on the importance and continuity of the traditions of mutual publications of Belarusian and Russian authors, the common themes and values that concern the authors and readers of our countries. Editor-in-chief of the Literary Russia newspaper, member of the Union of Writers of Russia, poet, prose writer, translator Vladimir Eremenko, editor-in-chief of the Roman-Gazeta magazine, prose writer Yuri Kozlov and editor-in-chief of the Moscow magazine, poet, prose writer and publicist Vladislav Artemov cited facts about publications of classics of Belarusian literature Vasil Bykov, Vladimir Korotkevich, Ivan Melezh, Ivan Shamyakin, as well as issues of intercultural magazines that include works by modern Belarusian writers. An example of personal and creative destiny as a bridge between Belarusian and Russian literatures and cultures was presented by prose writer and essayist Ales Kozhedub.
Representatives of the Vitebsk regional branch of the Union of Writers of Belarus and the Union of Writers of Russia discussed ideas and prospects for the implementation of joint conferences, seminars, exhibitions, presentations in the field of culture, as well as youth projects in Vitebsk and other cities of Belarus and Russia in 2025.
The meeting ended on a poetic note. The Chairperson of the Vitebsk Regional Branch of the Union of Writers of Belarus, Honored Cultural Worker of the Republic of Belarus Tamara Krasnova-Gusachenko, as well as Vladislav Artemov, Valery Kazakov, Vasily Koltunov, Nikolay Namestnikov read their poems.
