X scientific and practical conference «Vitebsk Region»

On November 21–22, the Vitebsk Regional Library hosted the X scientific and practical conference «Vitebsk Region», dedicated to the 1050th anniversary of the city of Vitebsk and the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders.
The conference was organized by the Vitebsk Regional Library named after V. Lenin, the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the Center for Research of Belarusian Culture, Language and Literature of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, and the Vitebsk Regional Museum of Local History.
The conference participants were addressed with a welcoming speech by the chief specialist of the Department of Culture of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, candidate of historical sciences, associate professor Denis Yurchak, director of the Vitebsk Regional Library Tatyana Adamyan, scientific secretary of the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Natalia Perevalova, first deputy director of the Center for Research of Belarusian Culture, Language and Literature of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Alexander Baranovsky, director of the Vitebsk Regional Museum of Local History Tatyana Starinskaya, director of the Yakub Kolas Institute of Linguistics of the Center for Research of Belarusian Culture, Language and Literature of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Igor Kopylov.
The plenary session featured presentations of books by Alexander Baranovsky, Nikolai Pivovar, Vladimir Snapkovsky. Natalia Perevalova presented the serial publication of the Institute of History «The People's Chronicle of the Great Patriotic War: Let's remember everyone!», the fourth book of which was published this year. Historians and local historians – researchers of the Vitebsk region were awarded with Certificates and Gratitude from the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Center for Research of Belarusian Culture, Language and Literature of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
A round table dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders was held in the Vitebsk Regional Museum of Local History.
Interesting reports were made in the sections «Historical Local History. Vitebsk Region from Antiquity to 1917», «Historical Local History. Vitebsk Region from 1918 to 1941», «Historical Local History. Vitebsk Region from 1941 to the Present. Literary Criticism», «Local History in the System of Humanities».
Local historian from the village of Bocheikovo Alla Orlova donated a unique edition to the Vitebsk Regional Library – «Russian Folk Tales» by A. Afanasyev, 1863.
Director of the Museum of Ancient Belarusian Culture, candidate of art history, associate professor Boris Lazuko presented to the audience five ancient Belarusian icons from the Vitebsk region, stored in the museum's funds, and dedicated his speech to the monuments of art and material culture of the Vitebsk region in the funds of the Museum of Ancient Belarusian Culture.
During the conference, an exhibition of book rarities from the home library of local historian Arkady Podlipsky, «Collection of cherished books», was opened.
