As part of the «Regional Studies Meetings» series, on October 24, the library hosted an event that attracted the attention of history and culture lovers - the presentation of the book by candidate of historical sciences, associate professor Nikolai Pivovar «Regional Atlas of the Vitebsk Region».
This large-scale work was the result of thirty years of work by the author, which began with the first local history excursions in the Vitebsk region.
The book includes almost 1,000 unique photographs and illustrations, 15 detailed maps of village councils, as well as a thematic index that will make it easier for readers to find the necessary materials. In addition, the atlas contains a list of renamed settlements in the region, which is an important part of preserving local history. During the presentation, Nikolai Pivovar shared the specifics of the publication's creation, gave interesting stories about the process of local history research, and recalled his previous books dedicated to his family and homeland. «The Regional Atlas of the Vitebsk Region» has become a real reference book covering local history resources, historical and cultural heritage, material and spiritual values, as well as the tourism potential of the region.
Nikolai P. paid special attention to his new book «This is Necessary for the Living: Search Movement in the System of Military Memorial Work in the Vitebsk Region», which was also presented at the event and was published in 2024. This work offers readers a unique look at the life and work of search groups that help preserve the memory of heroes, and emphasizes the importance of military memorial work in modern society.
The presentation ended with a lively discussion, during which participants were able to ask questions to the author and discuss the importance of local history research for future generations.
