Visitors to the «Ex Libris» exhibition hall will be able to see the legendary «Stevengraphs» and the first postal bookmarks, and admire unique hand-made items from the 19th century.
On September 11, the opening of the exhibition from the private collection of Elena Bulkina «The World of Bookmarks» took place. The collector, a native of St. Petersburg, moved to the Braslav district in 2014, where she created a unique museum of bookmarks. Elena B. collection includes examples from a variety of periods from the early 19th century to the present day.
Opening the exhibition, Tatyana Adamyan, director of the Vitebsk Regional Library named after V. Lenin, noted that the first month of autumn coincides with several dates associated with books: Knowledge Day, Belarusian Written Language Day, and, of course, Library Day, to which the event is dedicated. Art historian, Deputy Director for Academic Affairs of the Vitebsk Women's Theological School Elena Rak acted as an independent expert. Elena R. emphasized the enduring significance of the bookmark both over the past centuries and at present, and also donated one of her own rare copies to the collector.
Then the floor was given to the leading bibliographer of the rare book sector Olga Lebedeva, who gave the guests a fascinating tour of the exhibition. The exhibition space contained more than 900 bookmarks from different countries of the world, made in a variety of techniques.
The exhibition «The World of Bookmarks» will last until October 31.
