The presentation of the multimedia resource «Military Roads of Librarians of the Vitebsk region», dedicated to the contribution of library workers of the Vitebsk region to the Victory, took place in the library on September 4.
In 2024, the Vitebsk Regional Library celebrates two important events: the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders and the 95th anniversary of its foundation. The library staff had a question: were there any of their colleagues who participated in the Great Patriotic War? They began to look through documents, study materials, and collect facts. Initially, such a study was carried out on the basis of the regional library, and over time, the library systems of the region also joined the work. Enough information was collected, and the idea arose to systematize this information. This is how the electronic resource «Military Roads of Vitebsk Region Librarians» appeared, dedicated to the contribution of Vitebsk Region library workers to bringing Victory closer.
Its main goal is to preserve the memory of librarians who participated in the Great Patriotic War and worked in the libraries of Vitebsk and the Vitebsk region.
Head of the General Reading Room, Tatyana Pototskaya introduced those present to the structure of the project, which currently contains information about 42 librarians who fought in the Red Army during the Great Patriotic War and took part in the underground and partisan movement.
Detailed information is provided about each of them: years of life, education, participation in combat operations, work in the library field, awards and bibliography. In addition, the project is supplemented with interactive posters and infographics, which makes it more visual and interesting for users.
The guest of honor of the presentation, Ekaterina Sidarovich, the daughter of one of the project participants L. Tarasevich, spoke about her book «The Rich Girl», which she dedicated to her mother, and read her poems.
The project is not limited to the life stories of librarians who participated in the Great Patriotic War. Through the prism of their fates, one can trace the history of the revival of the library network in the Vitebsk region in the post-war period.
Leading archivist of the Institution «State Archives of the Vitebsk Region» Anton Yupatov, whose research formed the basis of one of the sections of the project, shared the latest findings and facts from the history of the revival of the library system in the post-war period.
The military page of the Vitebsk Regional Library named after V. Lenin, whose employees also made their contribution to the Victory, was considered separately. Library Director Tatyana Adamyan noted the significance of the project in her speech and, on behalf of the entire team, expressed pride in her colleagues.
A regular reader of the library, Konstantin Gaidukov, took part in the presentation of the project. His interest in the local history of the Vitebsk region made it possible to optimize the work of librarians during the preparation of information for the interactive. As an example, the authors of the project presented viewers with the opportunity to take part and test their knowledge in the online quiz «We learned about the war from books».
Work on the resource will continue. «Military Roads of Librarians of the Vitebsk Region» is a tribute to the memory of our colleagues - participants of the Great Patriotic War. Preserving this memory is our sacred duty.
