International cooperation of librarians in preserving nature and cultural heritage

Olga Komendantova, the deputy head of Vitebsk regional library, took part in the I International ecological and local history research forum «Library in ECOformat» in the national park «Smolensk Lakeland».
The Forum was held from July 31 to August 2, 2024 and for the first time was included in the program of the XIII Summer Camp of rural librarians «Ecotour through the Smolensk Lakes». The participants also took part in a competition for the best ecological emblem «To Know, to Save», a volunteer action in the Pharmacy Garden of the Dendropark, a presentation of journalistic essays and satirical revues on ecological topics. In addition, they visited thematic master classes, model casting «Ecology is Fashionable!» and the house-museum of N.M. Przhevalsky.
The event was organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Smolensk region, «Library Association of the Smolensk region», «Smolensk Regional Universal Scientific Library named after A.T. Tvardovsky» and «Directorate of Specially Protected Natural Territories of the Smolensk region». An important part of the forum was the attention to environmental education within the framework of the regional state program «Environmental protection and rational use of natural resources in the Smolensk region». Urban and rural libraries actively promote the availability of environmental information and attract the attention of the local community to environmental issues and the education of environmental culture.
Olga Komendantova presented a report on «Public libraries of Vitebsk region and state environmental institutions: from the experience of interaction», becoming one of the experts of the forum. The professional meeting in the Smolensk Lakeland National Park became a productive platform for Belarusian and Russian library specialists, providing participants with an opportunity to gain new knowledge, exchange experience and establish business contacts.
