Thematic Lounge «The Most Important: History of Vitebsk Region in Faces»

On May 24, the thematic lounge «The most Important: History of Vitebsk region in faces», dedicated to the Year of Peace and Creation and the 85th anniversary of the Vitebsk region was held in the library.
The event was organized by the Main Department of Justice of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, the Vitebsk regional organization of the Trade Union of workers of state institutions, the State Archives of the Vitebsk region and the Vitebsk Regional Library named after V. Lenin. The importance of remembrance of the people who glorified the native land by their work was emphasized by the Deputy Chairperson of the Belarusian Trade Union of Public Employees Yury Chernukha, First Deputy Head of the Main Administration of Justice of Vitebsk Executive Committee Marina Bykova, the Chairperson of Vitebsk regional organization of Trade Union of Public Employees Elena Nefedova, the host of the thematic lounge: Deputy Director of the Vitebsk region State Archives Tatyana Buevich.
The speeches of the head of the department of scientific and information work of the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, candidate of historical sciences Alexander Baranovsky, and the member of the Coordination Council of the International Association of Public Search Associations «National memory of the defenders of the Fatherland» and the veteran of the search movement Larisa Brueva, were devoted to Pyotr Masherov. Associate professor of the academy Denis Golubev talked about the former rector of Vitebsk State Academy of Veterinary Medicine «Badge of Honor». Chief Keeper of the Belarusian State Archive of Film and Photo Documents Alla Kot talked about interesting audiovisual documents on the history of Vitebsk region, which are kept in the archive, and demonstrated some video and photo materials with Rygor Borodulin, Vladimir Korotkevich and Alexander Ilyinski. The participants listened to the astronomer and author of astronomy textbooks and books Vladimir Golubev with great interest. The head of the department of the State Archives of the Vitebsk region Elena Bondareva and the leading archivist Svetlana Myasoedova talked about famous Vitebsk residents David Simanovich and Fyodor Shmakov, and their personal collections. Pupils of Vitebsk secondary school № 12 performed a literary composition on the poems of David Simanovich. The leading master of the stage of the Yakub Kolas National Academic Drama Theater Svetlana Zhukovskaya dedicated her performance to Fyodor Shmakov. The head of the local lore department of the library Larisa Rogacheva talked about the information resources of the library containing information about the famous people of Vitebsk region. The staff of the archive and the library prepared exhibitions devoted to the history of the Prydvinye region.
