Evening-portrait «The years were lived honestly and not in vain»

On May 1, the honorable citizen of Vitebsk and the former first secretary of the Vitebsk regional Communist Party Committee Sergey Shabashov celebrated his 100th anniversary.

Vitebsk Regional Library in cooperation with Vitebsk Regional Council of the Belarusian Public Association of Veterans timed to this significant date the evening-portrait «The years were lived honestly and not in vain» that took place on May 4.

Deputy head of the main department of ideological work and youth affairs of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Anatoly Hutsulyak spoke about the personality of Sergey Shabashov and his great contribution to the development of the region. The host of the evening and the Head of the local lore department Larisa Rogacheva reminded everyone about the leaders of the region and the regional party organization who worked for the benefit of the Vitebsk region in different years. The library staff prepared an informative electronic presentation about Sergey Shabashov and organized a book exhibition «Vitebsk region – the milestones of history».

The senior researcher of the Liozno Military Historical Museum Snezhana Mokrousova talked about the materials dedicated to the famous countryman, that are kept in the museum as well as about the main milestones of his life path. The song «Birches and pines», which Sergei Shabashov loved very much, was performed by the folk group «Medunitsa» directed by Anna Mokrousova from the House of Culture of the agrotown Adamenki of Liozna СCS. The veterans Joseph Naumchik and Peter Susalko shared their memories of joint work and friendship with Sergey Shabashov. Elena Bondareva, head of the department of information retrieval systems and automated archival technologies of the State Archives of Vitebsk region talked about the personal collection of Sergey Shabashov and demonstrated some photos kept in the archive. The words of gratitude to the participants of the evening and to all those who remember Sergey Shabashov, said a member of Vitebsk regional council of the Belarusian public association of veterans Zoya Krot and son of Sergey Mikhailovich named Konstantin.

Sergey Shabashov's favorite songs, performed by Olga Kiryanchik, Galina Kalinina and Sergey Luzgin brightened up the evening.
