On May 18, a memorable evening «Chroniclers of the heroic period» dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of Nina and Nikolai Dorofeyenko took place in the library.
Nina Dorofeyenko (Moiseeva) was a participant of underground and partisan movement during the Great Patriotic War as well as candidate of historical sciences and honored worker of higher school of BSSR. Nikolai Dorofeenko was a participant of the Great Patriotic War, fighter pilot, journalist and honored worker of culture of the BSSR. In 1970–1983 he was the editor-in-chief of the newspaper «Vitebsk Worker», later became the chairman of the regional journalistic organization. Thanks to the efforts of Nina and Nikolai Dorofeyenko, their searches and collection of materials, the names of thousands of heroes of the Vitebsk party and Komsomol underground were established and named for the first time. Their book «Vitebsk Underground» (1969, 1974) is a documentary story about the living and dead heroes of Vitebsk underground resistance during the Great Patriotic War. It has remained to this day the actual and most complete source of information about the patriotic fighters. Nina Dorofeyenko is also one of the authors of the book «Young Heroes of Vitebsk» (1980). Articles by Nina and Nikolai Dorofeyenko on the history of Vitebsk are placed in many encyclopedic and reference books.
The head of the department of local lore Larisa Rogacheva talked about the main milestones of life and activity of Nina and Nikolai Dorofeyenko. The chief specialist of the main department of ideological work and youth affairs of Vitebsk regional executive committee Svetlana Dedinkina, worker of culture Olga Akunevich, head of the department of history and cultural heritage of the Vitebsk state university named after P. Masherov Anatoliy Dulov and other colleagues shared their memories of work, meetings and friendship with Nina Ivanovna and Nikolai Vladimirovich. Anatoly Dulov, TV journalist Valery Zelvinsky, chief editor of the almanac «Mishpokha» Arkady Shulman, veteran Joseph Naumchik, local historian Arkady Podlipsky, art historian Alexander Lisov.
The elder daughter of Nina and Nikolai Dorofeenko Valentina Kucherenko donated to the Vitebsk regional library books with autographs of the authors, presented to her parents.
