The Nobel Prize in Literature is the most prestigious literary prize, awarded annually by the Nobel Committee in Stockholm on December, 10. It is one of five Nobel Prizes established by the will of Alfred Nobel written on 27 November 1895 in Paris.
The Swedish Academy decides who, if anyone, will receive the Nobel prize in Literature. As a rule, the Nobel Prize in Literature was previously awarded to famous writers for works of an «idealistic» nature, but in recent years the Swedish Academy has turned its attention to authors from countries around the world in order to make the prize as universal as possible.
The staff of Electronic Reading Room prepared a video presentation entitled «Winning Books: The Nobel Prize in Literature», which introduces the winners of the Nobel Prize for Literature over the past five years.
