VIII scientific-practical conference «Vitebsk Region: To the Year of Historical Memory»

On November 24, the VIII scientific-practical conference «The Vitebsk Region: To the Year of Historical Memory» was held in the library. More than 60 Belarusian scientists-historians and regional ethnographers shared their experience and the results of new researches in different fields of historical science.
The conference was organized by Vitebsk Regional Library named after V. Lenin and the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus as well as Vitebsk Regional Local Lore Museum.
At the opening of the conference the Director of Vitebsk Regional Library Tatyana Adamyan, the chief specialist of the Department of Culture of Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee and PhD in History Denis Yurchak, director of Vitebsk Regional Museum of Local Lore Tatyana Starinskaya, Deputy director for scientific work of the Institute of History of NAS of Belarus, PhD in History, associate professor Pavel Trubchik addressed the participants with a welcoming speech. The workers' publications of the Institute of History of the NAS of Belarus were given to the fund of the Vitebsk Regional Library.
The reports of the research worker of the Department of Scientific-Information Work of the Institute of History of NAS of Belarus Marina Zinchenko, the head of the Centre of the Belarusian history of the end of XVIII-XXI centuries of the Institute of the History of NAS of Belarus, Doctor of historical sciences, associate professor Nikolai Smekhovich, the Chief expert of the Department of Culture of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, candidate of Historical sciences Denis Yurchak, archaeologist, associate professor of the Centre for the Research of Belarusian culture, language and literature of the NAS of Belarus Leonid Koledinsky and the Head of the Department of Information Retrieval Systems and Automated Archival Technologies of the State Archive of Vitebsk Region Elena Bondareva were presented at the plenary session of the conference.
The work of the sections «Historical Regional Studies. Vitebsk Region from Antiquity to 1917», «Historical Regional Studies. Vitebsk region from 1918 till nowadays» and «Regional studies in the system of humanitarian sciences» went by productive. Interesting reports were made by historians, specialists in the field of culture, archivists and regional ethnographers.
The results of the conference will be published in a self-titled collection of materials.
