Nikolai Nikiforovsky (1845-1910) was an outstanding Belarusian scientist, collector of monuments of material and spiritual culture of the Belarusians, ethnographer, folklorist and local historian.
Nikiforovsky was actively engaged in collecting ethnographic material; first of all, his interests concerned the spiritual culture of the Belarusians.
The staff of the electronic reading room has prepared a video presentation «Exhibition of one book - "Nechistiki: A Set of Folk Tales of Evil Spirits in Vitebsk Belarus"». Nikolai Nikiforovsky using folk legends and tales, made for the first time in his work a systematic scientific description of the Belarusian demonology - the science of unclean force, evil spirits.
The book is recommended to ethnologists, researchers of folklore, historians, as well as to a wide range of readers interested in the culture and folklore of Belarus.
