On September 8, a thematic evening «The strength of the Belarusian people is in the unity» dedicated to the Day of National Unity was held in Vitebsk regional library.

The event was attended by deputy head of the ideological work, youth, religion and nationalities department of the Main Department of ideological work and youth affairs of Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Irina Sofeychenko, chief specialist of the Main Department of ideological work and youth affairs Natalya Neusheva, chairmen of regional public organizations and political parties, members of their organizations, students and young people.

The hosts of the evening - chairman of the Vitebsk regional Coordination Council of public associations and political parties, chairman of the Vitebsk regional organization of the public association «Belarusian union of veterans of the war in Afghanistan» Valerian Matskevich and head of the local lore department of the library Larisa Rogacheva told about the new state holiday - the Day of National Unity. The chairman of Vitebsk regional organization of the public association «Veterans of airborne troops and special operations forces» Vyacheslav Belous presented a report «About the Riga peace treaty of 1921 and its consequences». Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor Alexander Dedinkin told about the liberation of Western Belarus from the Polish oppression in 1939. The first secretary of Vitebsk regional organization of the public association «Belarusian Republican Youth Union» Vladimir Babichev was speaking about the contribution of young people to the unity of the Belarusian people.

The library staff presented to the participants of the event an exhibition-viewing «Origins of the Belarusian Spirituality».
