Interregional seminar «Local history activities of libraries as a basis for historical and patriotic education»

On March 30-31, the interregional seminar «Local history activities of libraries as a basis of historical and patriotic education» and the meeting of the Council of directors of public libraries of Vitebsk region, dedicated to the Year of historical memory was held in the library.

The seminar was opened by the Head of Vitebsk Regional Library named after V. Lenin Tatyana Adamyan.

The deputy head of the Department - the head of the work of cultural organizations of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Halina Barkevich welcomed the participants of the seminar.

Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor, History Teacher of the Vitebsk Cadet School Nikolai Pivovar, made a report on the forms, methods, achievements and perspectives of local libraries of the Vitebsk region.

A multimedia project «Liberation of Vitebsk. 1943-1944» that won the national contest of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus for the best cultural project on patriotic subjects in the nomination «The best interactive library project on patriotic subjects» was presented to the participants of the seminar.

The issues of development of libraries' local history activities based on the use of modern information technologies were discussed on the seminar.

The Scientific Secretary of Mogilev Regional Library named after V. Lenin Yulia Kostiuk, the head of Local Lore Department of Gomel Regional Universal library Nina Serikova and the head of the local lore department of Grodno Regional Scientific Library named after E. Karski Elena Kuchinskaya shared the experience of creation and use of local lore databases and electronic local lore resources.

The Head of Brest Regional Library named after M. Gorky Elena Strizhevich talked about the work of the Rare Book Department and museum and archival local history activities.

The Assistant of the Deputy Chairman of Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Sergei Fadeenkov presented an interesting report «In search of Lost Heritage: from the history of the lost Orthodox churches of Vitebsk».

The head of the department of library marketing and social and cultural activities of Dubrovno central district library Nadezhda Dudareva, director of Glubokoe centralized library system Valentina Spasibenok, a librarian of the I category of Kurino village library of Vitebsk centralized library system Maria Karnovich, the head of the department for work with children of the central district library of Liozna centralized library system Olga Pechenova shared their experience of a local lore and research activities.

In the framework of the seminar were awarded the winners of the regional stage of the XXX Republican Contest «Library as a Center of National Culture». Nine libraries were awarded diplomas of the first, second and third degree.
