Free Courses «Vitebsk: Real and Popular History of the Native Town». «Marc Chagall and Vitebsk»

On September 28, 2017 in the library started a new season of free courses «Vitebsk: Real and Popular History of the Native Town». Head of the Department of History of Belarus at VSU named after P. Masherov, PhD in History Anatoly Dulov noted that the topics that will be covered in the courses at new semester will be interesting and diverse.

The first lessons topics is «Marc Chagall and Vitebsk». Lyudmila Khmelnitskaya is a Chairwoman of the Custodial Account of Trustees of the Marc Chagall Museum in Vitebsk acted as a lecturer. Lyudmila Vladimirovna told about the peculiarities of «Shagalovsky Vitebsk» and the city landscape of the artist. On the slides of the electronic presentation, the students of the courses saw the city, as it was painted by J. Pesca, N. Orda, D. Strukov, I. Trutnev before Chagall. Special attention was paid to M. Dobuzhinsky - the first teacher of Marc Chagall in St. Petersburg, Yu Pan - the first teacher of Chagall in Vitebsk; Vitebsk in the drawings of the disciples of Pan - Yefim Minin, Solomon Yudovin, Lev Zevin, El Lisitsky, Leiba Shulman.

The second part of the lecture was devoted to the memory topic of Marc Chagall in Vitebsk. Lyudmila Khmelnitskaya told about the fate of the artist's family, about attitude towards Chagall in the Soviet era, about Marc Chagall name' returning to his homeland.
